I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be posting owls, they seem to be leaving the nest, literally speaking. But there’s always something going on in nature, so there will likely be more updates of some sort. I came across the death of a mother deer this weekend in ‘the way back’ (a fenced-off area above our backyard we keep wild), I likely wouldn’t have noticed so soon after it happened had it not been for this owl project. I’m not sure I want to write about it just yet, perhaps soon. She left behind two fawns.
Why are humans affected by the death of one but rarely the deaths of many? With human, animal, and climate heaviness ever-present, this experience brought up grief, loneliness, and survival. I think about what we can control and what we cannot. What we can only be witnesses to and what we can act on.
You pose good questions with no easy answers. I feel a pang for the deer...
Your photos and footage have been so cool all along. I’m sure there will be more. The owls are talking about ya
Were the fawns rescued?
